India’s medal hopes have suffered a major blow as ace shuttler Saina Nehwal has pulled out of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Reports suggest that Saina suffered from blisters on both her feet after the final in Australian Open Super Series and couldn’t practice much after it. Also, it’s come into light that she’s suffering from a knee problem.

Considering her recent performances (winning at Australian Open Super Series) and her past performance at the games, she was amongst the favourites to win the single’s gold.

What also increased her chances was not much competition in the tournament, other than from Malaysia.

In the 2010 Delhi CWG, Saina defeated Malaysia’s Wong Mew Choo in a nail biting final to clinch the gold and started her journey to the Olympic’s Bronze in London.

With Saina out, India’s hopes now rest on PV Sindhu and the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa.
