Kumar Sangakkara broke two records in Sydney today against Australia in a match which saw great competition from both the teams. The Srilankan became only the second batsman ever to score over 14000 runs in One Day Internationals and is behind only Sachin Tendulkar in this record. Currently he has scored 14065 runs in 402 matches of which he has played 378 innings. He scored 104 off 107 balls today but the century went in vain as Sri Lanka faltered in their chase against the mammoth total of 376 posted by the Aussies.

With the century he scored today, Sangakkara becomes the only player to score three consecutive centuries in the world cups. He scored a quickfire 105 (76) against Bangladesh followed by another superb knock of 117 (86) against England. With today’s century, the 37 year old gets the most runs by a batsman this tournament as he overtook SA’s AB de Villiers and has notched up 372 runs so far.

With this world cup being his last one, Sangakkara is making it a memorable one for him.
