Channel 4 have announced a new show called ‘Guy Martin: Classic F1 driver’. It will be filmed in the style of a documentary and as a part of the project, Isle of Man TT legend Guy Martin and 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button are set to go head-to-head in vintage Williams cars, one of which was driven by Ayrton Senna.

The most exciting part of it is that Martin will drive the 1983 Williams in which Keke Rosberg won the Monaco Grand Prix that year and was also incidentally the car which Ayrton Senna tested as part of his first F1 test.

Martin is set to restore the Williams FW08C and will race former champion, Jenson Button at Silverstone before the British Grand Prix. Button himself will be driving the six-wheeled FW08B, which was banned before the 1983 F1 season.

Martin was upbeat about the project. “I feel that I’m in good company behind the wheel of the Williams FW08C. It was the first F1 car to be driven by the great Aryton Senna and it won the 1983 Monaco Grand Prix.”

“It’s been a real privilege to work with Williams on bringing this iconic piece of motoring history back to life. Jenson may be a world champion but with a stunning vehicle like this, all bets are off!”, he said.

Guy Martin has experienced the F1 paddock before, serving as part of Williams’ pit crew at the Spa-Francorchamps during the 2017 Belgium Grand Prix, as part of a television programme.

The British Grand Prix takes place next month on July 8. It will be part of F1’s first triple header i.e the first time that three F1 races will take place on consecutive weekends along with France and Austria.

With this announcement, the excitement has gone up a few notches and fans will surely want it to come soon enough.
