Serena Williams on US Open 2019 Finals – “I Don’t Think Serena Showed Up”

The American legend, Serena Williams was frustrated after her Grand Slam final losing streak continued at US Open 2019 finals. She felt that she was not at her best and could have produced a better game by curtailing her errors.

“It’s really hard right now to take that moment in and to say you did okay because I don’t believe I did. I believe I could have played better. I believe I could have done more. I believe I could have just been more Serena today. I honestly don’t think Serena showed up. I have to kind of figure out how to get her to show up in Grand Slam finals,” Serena Williams said.

The 37-year-old, Williams will be delighted when she will look back at her accomplishments once she sets aside her racquets. Presently, on the WTA Tour, there isn’t a player who is capable of becoming the ‘Next Serena Williams’ of tennis. She has played with almost four generations of the game and has been dominant in each era.

“I feel like in 20 years, I definitely will be like, ‘Wow, that wasn’t so bad,’” Serena added. “It’s very hard right now in the moment to, like, take this and say, It didn’t work out for you today.”

“All of it honestly, truly is super frustrating,” Serena told the press. “I’m, like, so close, so close, so close, yet so far away. I don’t know what to say. I guess I got to keep going if I want to be a professional tennis player. And I just got to just keep fighting through it.”

With a 6-3, 7-5 win over her an opponent double her age, Bianca Andreescu went on to become the first Canadian to lift a Grand Slam title and simultaneously halted Serena Williams to level Margaret Court’s Grand Slam tally.

During the championships match, Serena had a poor percentage on her first serves. She had 44 percent of them inside the box (which was her poorest record in the entire tournament) and committed 58 errors in total, which included double faults on crucial moments.

She could control the second set after saving championship points with a 5-1 trail and battled back to level the score at 5-5. World Number eight, Williams has called off of her tennis season 2019, and she will be seen at Australian Open 2020 next year.
