Former Pakistani Cricketer, Shoaib Akhtar backs team India to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 title after the ‘Men in Blue’ finished at the top of the points table after the end of the group stages.
India is the only Asian team at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to qualify for the semifinals with all the other teams from the subcontinent including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka knocked out in the league stages of the quadrennial event.
The ‘Men in Blue’ will face fourth-placed New Zealand in the first semifinals in Manchester on July 9. Their previous encounter in the league stages of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was washed out without even a single ball being bowled.
Shoaib Akhtar suggested that he would like to have the biggest title of cricket in the subcontinent only and wishes India to win the World Cup.
Shoaib Akhtar said on his YouTube channel, “New Zealand can’t take the pressure. I hope they don’t choke this time. But I really want the World Cup to stay in the subcontinent and I think, I will back India all the way.”
Rohit Sharma has been in the best of the form as he scored his 5th century of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Saturday against Sri Lanka. The right-handed opener is also the highest scorer of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Shoaib Akhtar also praised Rohit Sharma along with his opening partner K.L. Rahul for some good performances lately. “Rohit Sharma has great timing and shot selection. His understanding of the game is also superb. K.L. Rahul also got his ton which is a good thing,” Shoaib Akhtar added.
Shoaib Akhtar also feels that the ‘Green Army’ was a better team than the ‘Blackcaps’ and they could have made it to the semifinals if net run rate did not come into action. He continued, “Pakistan played better than New Zealand. I really thought they would make it but the net run rate is a cruel thing.”
