26 Years After Dennis Rodman’s ‘Oldest’ NBA Feat, Daughter Trinity Rodman Makes NWSL History As the ‘Youngest’

How good is Trinity Rodman in NWSL? Playing amongst some top soccer players like Alex Morgan and Sophie Smith, the Washington Spirit striker is carving a name for herself. Rodman has quite a few similarities to her father, Dennis Rodman, like skills and game awareness, but she has moved in the opposite direction in terms of her recent record. The senior Rodman became the oldest to conquer the throne of rebounds. And 26 years later, his daughter became the youngest to reach a major NWSL feat.

After Washington Spirit’s shoddy spell in the 2023 season, Rodman looks determined to prove a point this year. After her remarkable performance against the Chicago Red Stars in yesterday’s game, Trinity became the youngest to reach 40 goal contributions in all NWSL competitions at 21 years and 347 days. It also includes contributions from the Challenge Cup, making her one of the most valuable players in NWSL.

The landmark was achieved after the 21-year-old played a crucial part in her team’s 4-2 win. Scoring the opening goal and providing the assist for the second, Rodman complimented Brittany Ratcliffe to take Washington Spirit to the #2 sport this season. However, this was the first goal for the Trinity this season, but it came in a record-creating effort. Nevertheless, this is not the first time Trinity Rodman has created waves in soccer.

Rodman has made a positive impact on Spirit since her arrival. Debuting in 2021, she scored seven goals and provided seven assists in the same season, winning the NWSL Rookie of the Year. However, her impact goes beyond numbers. The success of the USWNT striker relies heavily on her exceptional skills and visionary abilities on the field. Rodman provided a sensational assist for Kelley O’Hara’s goal, which won the NWSL Championship for the Washington Spirit. Nevertheless, it looks like this is just the beginning of a legacy her family is accustomed to.

Dennis Rodman was also a record-breaking athlete who, in April 1998, became the oldest to lead the NBA rebounds at 36 years and 341 days old. Seems like the legacy has carried down in terms of records as well.

However, the striker has a crucial season ahead, not just for Spirit but also for USWNT. Trinity Rodman could be one of the key players for her national team heading into the Paris Games in July. And with such achievements under her belt already an Olympic medal with the USWNT could be iconic for the youngster.
