Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr, the Saudi Premier League has witnessed top European talents join the league. This meteoric rise in quality was incredibly predicted by CR7 earlier this summer. Following the end of this transfer window, the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner revisited his statement and went on to add that the Saudi League is even better than the Portuguese league as of now. This statement by the ex-Real Madrid star against his own country’s league clearly hasn’t pleased his fellow citizens. Portuguese actress Maria Vieira was very upset with CR7’s statement and hence took to social media to respond.

The ‘Gilded Cage’ star was brutal in her response and defended her country’s league by belittling the quality of Saudi’s native players. She also went on a rant alluding the European players’ intention to play in Saudi for money. Viera then hit the final nail in the coffin by going on a personal attack on CR7 much to everyone’s surprise.

Maria Viera took to Facebook last night to launch a scathing response to CR7’s comments that SPL is better than Portugal’s Primeira Liga. She first acknowledged that the Primeira Liga is not perfect in any essence thanks to its dirty politics and multiple corruption scandals over the years.

However, the claim that SPL is better than the Liga was totally unrealistic and was as far as Saudi Arabia from the truth for her. As per Viera, CR7 rates SPL higher because he is projecting his arrogance and narcissism through it.

“It’s true that the Portuguese Football League is a circus where a lot of lying, corrupt, and thieving clowns perform,” acknowledged the veteran actress. “But from there to saying, with that arrogance and narcissism that characterizes him, that ‘the Arab League is better than the Portuguese’ is a distance as far as Saudi Arabia!” said the 66-year-old brutally.

Maria didn’t stop there. After disrespecting the league, the veteran actress went on to troll the players plying their trade in the SPL. She did so by questioning each of their morals and categorizing them as per their capabilities.

According to Maria, three types of players play in the Saudi Premier League. The first type is those who are at the fag end of their European top-flight career and view Saudi as a retirement home. The second are those who are simply there for the allure of money. The third meanwhile is the sub-standard Saudi players who as per her wouldn’t even break into a team of Portugal’s local municipal team.

“I’ll stress it again, the Arab League only plays players at the end of their careers,” said Viera boldly. “Players who drool for money, and absolutely mediocre Arab players who wouldn’t even belong in Freixo de Espada à Cinta Football Club!” shared the veteran actress in her scathing manner.
