The Cristiano Ronaldo effect is evident at Al Nassr. They sit 2nd in the league, just 4 points behind leaders Al-Ahli. Ronaldo himself is leading the team from the front by being the top goalscorer in the league. Also, new signings Sadio Mane and Aymeric Laporte are putting in influential performances.

Considering the fact that Al Ahli will play the season without star-signing Neymar, Al Nassr is expected to pose a serious title charge. However, not everything is well at the SPL club. As per the latest reports, Al Nassr could be set for a huge financial loss.

As per reports circulating on X, Al Nassr will make a financial loss of between $300 to $400 million this year. Saudi executive and former executive director of SPL Saad Al-Lathith revealed that this is because of terminating player contracts and paying penalty clauses. Player contracts terminated before their expiry require compensation to the players. Moreover, this is applicable to all the SPL clubs who decide to terminate contracts before their period of expiry. Hence, Al Nassr won’t be the only team to be losing money this year.

After Al Nassr’s signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, they had to remove one foreign player. This player was Vincent Aboubaker who plays in a similar position to Ronaldo. As per a report from RMC Sport, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement and Aboubaker received all his financial rights. The case of Rudi Garcia was also similar. Garcia left Al Nassr by mutual agreement last season after some disappointing performances and was succeeded by Luis Castro. Such terminations are bound to cost Al Nassr a lot of money.

Castro is looking for ways to improve his already impressive team. As per the latest reports, Castro wanted one of Ronaldo’s former teammates at Al Nassr. However, that move looks to be dead.

David De Gea opts against Cristiano Ronaldo reunion

Former Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea has been the subject of an approach by Al Nassr. Al Nassr offered the Spaniard a contract in excess of $600,000 per week.  Yet De Gea seems to have declined the move.

It is believed that this decision was made for personal reasons, as De Gea’s wife is not interested in moving to Saudi Arabia. Fans of Al Nassr will be disappointed as the Spaniard would have been a great addition to the side. The Spaniard is currently a free agent despite winning the Golden Glove in his last Premier League season. It will be interesting to see where De Gea ends up.
