Al Nassr’s quest for a first AFC Champions League title was cut short by Al Ain. Moreover, the league is also pretty much out of their hands, with Al Hilal enjoying a 12-point lead. Hence, there is a damning possibility that a trophyless season could be on the cards! Not a satisfactory look when having players of the caliber of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane. However, according to a former Premier League star, the problem lies within CR7 himself!

Interestingly, he also pointed out a solution to the CR7 problem. And for that, Luis Castro needs to take a leaf out of Fernando Santos’s book.

Former Egypt International and Tottenham star Ahmed Mido is not impressed with Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence at the club. He told VNE Xpress, “Al Nassr’s real problem is that Ronaldo is the one leading the team, not Mr. Castro. Ronaldo decides everything in the team.” He also added that Al Nassr must be bigger than any player while terming a recent incident involving the soccer icon as ‘unacceptable.’

Back in January, Al Nassr was scheduled to play two games in China. The tour was undoubtedly marketed around the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner. However, CR7 suffered an untimely muscle injury, and this caused Al Nassr to cancel the entire trip. Fans were unhappy, and Cristiano Ronaldo even issued an apology. For Mido, this is not acceptable.

Luis Castro urged to learn from Fernando Santos

Ahmed Mido detailed the contrasting approaches used by Santos and Castro while dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo. He explained, “In the Portuguese team, the coach is willing to let Ronaldo sit on the bench. And Castro let Ronaldo do whatever he wanted at Al Nassr. The problem is that Mr. Castro is too weak.” However, while Santos was brave in dropping Cristiano Ronaldo, the move didn’t exactly pay off in Qatar 2022.

Despite being Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer (128) and appearance (205), Cr7 has dropped to the bench in Portugal’s World Cup knockout games! Nevertheless, Portugal’s journey in the quarters came to an end when they were defeated by Morocco, resulting in Fernando Santos being relieved of his duties. It’s not just his job he lost but also his relationship with the soccer icon. Per Santos, CR7 and he haven’t spoken to each other ever again!
