With the nation in a state of crisis, Brazilian soccer icon Neymar Jr. has stepped up to help the people in need.

Neymar took to his Instagram handle to raise awareness of the Rio Grande do Sul flood situation. The Al Hilal star stated, “Delicate moment that our Brazil is going through and helping is NEVER too much, regardless of your financial condition. What matters is what you carry in your heart.”

He added, “I don’t like and don’t like to post everything I do or help, because who does it.. do it from the heart, not from the commitment. So, this post is to encourage more people to help. I’d like to thank the pilots of my aircraft and everyone involved. I’m here from afar praying that everything goes back to normal… My father is taking care of me and giving all the help possible. ❤️🙏”

Conditions in Rio Grande do Sul continue to worsen with each passing hour. According to reports, over 150,000 have been displaced from their homes with floods sinking major parts of the state. All international flights from the City have been suspended since last Friday as the local authorities look to get the situation under control.

Brazilian government mirrors Neymar’s actions for flood victims

While Neymar Jr’s heartwarming act deserved applause, the Brazilian government also effectively handled the situation. Authorities in Rio Grande do Sul have already relocated over 100,000 people to relief shelters while providing them with crucial amenities. With the weather unlikely to change in the coming days, local support groups are trying to ensure victims have no more issues in the coming hours.

Despite their efforts, reports suggest that the death toll could see a significant increase. With hundreds of people still missing, the search teams could have a hard time finding every refugee in the harsh weather conditions.
