Chelsea Star Evades Red Card After Strong Challenge Leaving Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch Stretchered Off, Fans React

It looks like fortune is seeming to favor Chelsea, who are taking on Liverpool in the finale of the English League Cup today. Its midfielder Moisés Caicedo’s left foot landed on Liverpool’s midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who needed a stretcher to be taken off in the 28th minute. However, this is not sitting well with the fans, with a few of them calling it a red for Caicedo and a few of them don’t.

The West London club has been under a lot of scrutiny this season for not being able to achieve their goals. However, the club has managed to reach the Carabao Cup final, and a win would turn what looks like a disastrous season into a fair one. But all the attention has been diverted to Gravenberch’s injury.

The $146 million Ecuadorian player arrived from Brighton but has not met expectations until now. But things could have gotten worse if Caicedo had been sent off, leaving Chelsea with 10 men on a big occasion. However, the fans on social media are calling the player out.

One fan posting the video on X (previously Twitter) felt that it was not a red because Caicedo slipped.

Another fan feels that there’s no doubt of it being a red.

 

One user called the VAR out by implying it was a punishable offense. The user posted a video of a referee in a local match as an example for a better decision maker.

 

This person takes a sarcastic dig at the former Brighton player’s poor form this season. Says it was the best he could come up with this season.

 

This netizen had a unique and felt it was for sure a yellow. However, the player didn’t even get booked for the challenge.

 

The next fan felt it did not meet the criteria for penalty as it was not above the ankle.  Another one for the Blue’s defense.

 

However, this user expects more than a red for such a tackle. He says that the midfielder need to be taken to prison.

 

Ultimately, this person felt that the Liverpool midfielder went to ground without much pressure on him.

Liverpool is on a serious mission in Jurgen Klopp’s last season for the club. But it is fighting an injury crisis this season, with players like Diego Jota and Curtis Jones out with hits. Additionally, players like Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah did not start today’s game, leaving fans curious.

Meanwhile, the Reds are still at the top of the Premier League chart, 1 and 2 points ahead of competitors Manchester City and Arsenal. However, with increasing injuries to their squad, it will be interesting to see how they finish the season.
