Manchester United wore black armbands in their 2-0 win over Brentford to pay tribute to Alex Ferguson’s wife, Cathy Ferguson. Flags were reduced to half-staff at Old Trafford, as Cathy was considered the ‘tower of strength for Sir Alex throughout his career. The former club manager said, “Unfortunately, I have also suffered the painful loss of my beloved wife, Cathy, this month, and I want to thank the club, the fans, and everyone who has sent me their condolences. The black armbands worn by the team against Brentford and the flags at half-mast around Old Trafford were a wonderful tribute. Cathy supported me every step of the way through my career, and she was the backbone of our family.”

Despite the heartwarming tribute, Manchester United’s stunning comeback win reminded the fans of their former manager. During Ferguson’s era, United was recognized for scoring late goals. Brentford was in a comfortable position after Mathias Jensen gave the visitors the lead in the 26th minute of the game. After their lead, the Red Devils created numerous chances but failed to convert a single one. But a game-changing substitution by Erik Ten Hag in the 87th tilted the game in United’s favor. Scott McTominay scored two late in the 90+3 and 90+7 minutes to win the game for United. This massive win was a perfect tribute to Cathy Ferguson.
