Despite having funds, clubs could face a few challenges in acquiring players in the Saudi Pro League. Al Nassr has most of the things in place in terms of the squad with the in-form Cristiano Ronaldo, but to have an edge over clubs like Al Hilal, it needs a stronger one. Hence, they had planned to sign a few important targets in the winter transfer window. However, Al Nassr reaches a barricade in its pursuit as the league makes it stringent for teams.

The Saudi Pro League seems to be working collectively to make the league more successful and balanced. Last year, the PIF took four clubs into its hands and started financially supporting them. But with more money comes more accountability, which can prove to be difficult for Al Nassr to quickly poach players in the current window.

Apart from challenges on the field, Al Nassr could need to fight an off-field battle to add more support to Cristiano Ronaldo and his team. This time, it’s the regulations for player transfers in the winter window that are a bit complex and lengthy, according to reports. The clubs need to follow a lengthy three-step procedure to sign players, which will include the initial application, the agreement copy, and the final copy.

The initial process is the longest of all, with the clubs needing to submit an application to the League. This will then lead to the study of assessing the financial conduciveness of the transfer, which, if approved, can allow the clubs to negotiate the deal with the players. Moreover, the clubs should keep the association updated regarding the developments.

The final two steps are a bit more relaxing. The second step involves the club providing the terms of the agreement after its drafting and prior to the parties signing the contract. The final procedure is to provide the office with all the ‘signed’ documents.

With just one month of the transfer window, it looks like Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr need to do more prep work than before.

Meanwhile, the plans for the signing of his former Los Blancos teammate Raphael Varane could be in jeopardy amid heavy interest from rival Al Ittihad. The club is also targeting players like Jadon Sancho, Hakim Ziyech, and Paulo Dybala, although no news regarding the progress has come out yet. One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
