David Beckham has once again raise to the spotlight after Inter Miami won the race to sign arguably the greatest player of all time, Lionel Messi. Furthermore, Messi’s move to Inter Miami is the biggest transfer in Major League Soccer history. Not to mention, it’s even bigger than David Beckham’s move to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007.
While fans are interested in seeing Messi unleash his full repertoire in action at MLS, it’s true that he will have to adjust to the new environment and team. Interestingly, Beckham also faced a lot of problems when he first transferred to Real Madrid from Man United in 2003.
In addition to that, David Beckham’s former advisor opened up about their unpleasant experience in Madrid. He mentioned, “I thought we were going to die in Madrid”.

Beckham arrived at Merengue in exchange for 25 million euros from Manchester United. Although the Englishman created a name for himself in Spain’s soccer history, his first experience when arriving in Madrid was not pleasant. Bernal referred to their experience as “It is very difficult to find the exact words to describe that madness. It was like a James Bond movie.”
Interestingly, the company was thrilled to bring more English players to Spanish Soccer. Therefore, Beckham’s move to Real Madrid gained several fans’ attention, which become too overwhelming later. The SFX agency appointed David’s advisor because of his command of the language.

However, he shared that after arriving in Spain, Bernal thought both David and he will die there like Lady Di. He further added, “They followed us 24 hours a day, they slept outside the hotel, inside, motorcycles, cars. Already the first day in Madrid, it crossed my mind that David and I were going to die like Lady Di.”
Bernal also mentioned that he would share all the depressing experiences with his mom on call. He also said, “We hired two Cuban bodyguards, ex-spies of Fidel Castro, and we also had two British military commandos. They inspected under the cars or pointed out emergency escape routes. It was like a military exercise every day.”

Bernal also opened up about journalist stalking behavior and how it affected them both. He added, “I remember the day of Beckham’s first training session, they chased us at 200 kilometers per hour and, as soon as we crossed the gate of the Ciudad Deportiva, David stopped the car and vomited.”
