English soccer had been knocking on the doors of an international trophy for many years. The team has not won a major trophy since the World Cup, led by its recently passed-away legend, Sir Bobby Charlton. Next year, the Three Lions will go into the 2024 Euro Cup with a very good squad. And one of its legends and fervent supporters, David Beckham, claims they can win the tournament. Beckham feels that England can owe that favorite tag to an inspiring player on the team.

Beckham himself bore a lot of expectations from the nation when he captained the side in the 2004 edition in Portugal. The campaign, however, ended in pain as England lost to Portugal on penalties, with Beckham himself missing one. The Inter Miami star, however, feels that the team can get over this time in Germany.

England’s national team has been in good form on the recent international circuit. The team is placed first in Group C, ahead of competitive teams like Ukraine and the current holders, Italy. However, this kind of build-up is never a new thing for the Three Lions. The team has gone into quite a few tournaments as favorites and messed it up. But this time Beckham feels that the current squad under Harry Kane’s leadership has a real chance.

Beckham, while speaking to the media, said, “I think that we have a real opportunity with young players like Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, and the other players we have on the team. And of course, we have a captain like Harry Kane who still continues to inspire his team and still continues to score goals.”

The Bayern Munich star just cannot go without scoring. Kane has already scored an astonishing 21 goals in just 16 games for the German side. His hattrick against Darmstadt recently, including one of the best goals in soccer, has taken the Bundesliga by surprise. However, will he replicate the same form in the big tournament?

England’s previous hurdles to winning

The West European team always went into major tournaments with a high chance. But the penalties seem to be their main enemy. After David Beckham’s penalty cost them the 2004 edition, the 2020 trophy was also missed in a penalty shootout. For a fact, England could have felt a World Cup semifinal spot if Kane converted the penalty in the 2022 quarterfinal.

Moreover, the current England captain has a tremendous record for his country, with 61 goals in 87 appearances. But the striker would aim to win his nation a major international trophy that is long overdue. Additionally, he has other top players like Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka who add more might to the team.
