Earlier today, Irish media broke the news of Grammy Award-winning singer and activist Sinead O’ Conner passing away. The singer was known for her crisp and pure voice backed by her iconic and astounding lyricism lingering around the themes of politics, spirituality, history, and philosophy. Sinead’s beloved fans all over the world were saddened. Many celebrities including Jamie Lee Curtis, Ice T, and David Beckham’s sons took to social media to share their condolences.

Sinead O’Connor shot to mainstream fame in 1990 with her sophomore album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got. From the album, it was her rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U by Prince that made her a household name.

Among many other significant celebrities, David Beckham’s sons Romeo Beckham [footballer/model] and Cruz Beckham [Musician/Model] also took to Instagram stories to share their grief. O’Connor’s fans reposted the post by British Vogue with her photo on their story with a heart-break emoji.

She was a staunch feminist, not afraid of standing against patriarchy. She was a polarising figure for sure but no one could ever question her commitment and intentions. Over the years, she battled a lot of mental health issues but she still managed to mesmerize us with her work and occasional social media videos. Her last work was in the opening credits in the 7th season of the popular TV show Outlander.
