The Cristiano Ronaldo-Juventus saga began amidst the tumultuous times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Juventus and its players agreed to defer a portion of their wages in order to help the club through the financial difficulties. However, it is now reported that Juventus has not paid back all of the deferred wages, including Ronaldo’s $21.2 million.

In a recent interview on ESPN’s “The Gab and Jules Show,” journalist Gabrielle Marcotti explained the situation in more detail. Marcotti said, “What Juventus did was, they negotiated with players and asked them for a pay cut. But, they assured to compensate their players with very easy-to-win bonuses in their contract next year.”

“Cristiano Ronaldo took a pay cut that is worth $21 million, which is obviously a lot of money. The following year he left Juventus for Manchester United. So, he never got his money back in the form of a bonus. And when he came back asking for his money, Juventus refused to pay him by saying, that he didn’t play in the bonus period, and the deal is illegal, so we can’t pay you,” Marcotti added.

So now, Cristiano Ronaldo is taking the matter to the court. It is unclear how the case will be resolved, but it is clear that Ronaldo is determined to get the money that he is owed. Ronaldo’s lawyers continue to argue that the deal to defer his wages was perfectly legal, as the player signed a contract extension before he left.

It is up to the courts to decide who is right and who is wrong. But, the implications of this case could have a major impact on the way that clubs negotiate with players over wages and bonuses. It could also set a precedent for other players who are owed money by their clubs, as happened when Paulo Dybala was paid his dues.

The final verdict could land Juventus in hot water

The outcome of the case between Ronaldo and Juventus could have significant implications for the club. If Ronaldo wins the case, Juventus will be forced to pay him $21.2 million in wages, which could further exacerbate the club’s financial problems. However, Juventus is arguing that the deal was illegal because it was not approved by the Italian Football Federation. The situation poses intriguing legal questions on the player contracts and conducts.
