Al Hilal locked horns against Uzbekistan side Navbahor in their opening AFC Champions League encounter. The Brazilian superstar, who was signed by Al Hilal in a deal worth around $96 million, was included in the starting line-up for the first time since his arrival. Though it seemed like an easy victory for the Saudi side, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Al-Hilal rescuing themselves by salvaging a late draw in Riyadh.

Neymar failed to provide any goal contribution for Al-Hilal in his anticipated debut in front of his home fans. But, despite failing to score or assist, he displayed his mettle with chance creation. As reported by @baytAlhilal in a tweet, Neymar Jr. created the most chances of any Saudi player in the Champions League group stage opener, with a total of five.

This impressive feat is even more remarkable considering that Neymar was subjected to some particularly robust treatment from the Navbahor defenders. Neymar was also booked by the referee just before the hour’s mark in the game. But, despite the physical challenges, he showcased his quality by carving out chances for his teammates.

Intriguingly, Neymar’s showcase of creativity cast a shadow over another global icon plying his trade in Saudi Arabia – Cristiano Ronaldo. This contrast between Neymar and Ronaldo is a sign that the Brazilian superstar is already starting to take center stage in Saudi Arabian soccer.

Neymar’s fitness concerns could be a problem for Al-Hilal

Neymar Jr. has been a new face in Saudi Arabia that aims to boost their presence in world football. With his stardom, and large fan following, Al-Hilal has struck a massive deal that could bring them lots of attention and fans. Despite his talent and persona, there lies one concern that could derail Neymar’s time in Saudi Arabia: his fitness.

The Brazilian has a history of injuries, and he has already missed a number of matches for Al Hilal since joining the club. Though he made his debut in Al-Hilal’s last league match, he still struggles with muscle injury reportedly.

If Neymar’s fitness problems continue, it could be a major blow to Al Hilal’s hopes of success in the Champions League. Neymar is expected to carry the weight of expectations on his shoulders. However, if his fitness woes persist, it could prove to be a formidable challenge for Al Hilal’s aspirations.
