The celebrations are yet to settle at Wrexham AFC. After all, for the first time in over 150 years, the club has secured consecutive promotions. The Red Dragons will play in the EFL League One next season. At this rate, the Welsh club will soon play in the Premier League. Yet, amidst the joy and festivities, one fan has spotted a vital detail regarding striker Steven Fletcher. Fletcher, whose contract was supposed to end this season could have been granted a surprise extension!
X (formerly Twitter) account RobRyanRed has spotted something interesting in Steven Fletcher’s player profile page on the Wrexham website. The Scottish striker was signed by Wrexham in September 2023. The initial deal was until the season’s end in May. However, on his profile page, it is mentioned that the striker will be in North Wales until the summer of 2025. There are two possibilities behind such a move.
Curious one #WxmAFC fans

Firstly, the striker could have had his contract extended behind the scenes with the club yet to make an official announcement. Alternatively, it could have been a typo in the website with 2025 coming in place of 2024. However, there is a lot to suggest that the former option could be better for Wrexham.
At 37 years of age, Steven Fletcher is at a point where he cannot be a guaranteed starter in a side. Wrexham uses him mainly as an alternative to star striker Paul Mullin. However, Fletcher has impressed in the role and has scored 8 goals in just 10 starts! Hence, why would he possibly agree to an extension as a squad player? The answer could be Ryan Reynolds.

Ryan Reynolds was the reason Steven Fletcher joined Wrexham in 4 hours!
240 minutes is all it took the Deadpool actor to convince the Scottish international to join his Wrexham project. Fletcher revealed to BBC 5 Live, “Obviously when Ryan called me it did help, I’m not going to lie. It’s Ryan Reynolds, how could you say no? I had the conversation, it was quite short to be honest with you. It was just ‘we’d love to have you here and be a part of the club.'”

Fletcher added that he was already keen on joining the Red Dragons. But, it was the call from the Hollywood a-lister that cemented his decision. Following this, he discussed it with his wife, and in just hours, he made his way to Racecourse ground. However, things were not easy as the striker suffered a knee injury that required surgery. And on January 1st, he bagged a hattrick against Borrow AFC, and his Wrexham career has been on the rise since.
