Juventus has been through a lot of back of forth in recent years. The 36-time Serie A winners have been struggling to find their footing as of late. The club has not been the same following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2021. However, the Old Lady had the option to sign, perhaps, the best replacement, but failed to do so due to financial shortcomings. In a recent interview, Juventus’ ex-CEO touched down on his biggest regret, as he failed to sign Erling Haaland during his early playing days.

Juventus has been rocked by constant drama in the past few years. The club is currently involved in a legal battle with former striker Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese has appealed that the club is yet to pay him over $21 million in unpaid wages. Juventus has denied the player’s claims, which saw Ronaldo take the matter into his own hands and sue the club.

Beppe Marotta speaks of his biggest regret

Former Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta touched down on his time with the club in a recent interview. Marotta during the interview talked about working with different managers during his stint. The former CEO talked about one of his biggest regrets from that transfer window.

“The regret was not taking Haaland at the time of Juventus when he was at Molde. For economic reasons, we could not do that kind of operation,” he said.

Erling Haaland was one of the top emerging talents during his time at Molde. The teenager was then signed by RB Salzburg before he moved to Borussia Dortmund to make a name for himself as one of the best strikers in the game. Juventus, following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, struggled to find a threat in the final third, and eventually signed Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina instead.

Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo yet to come to a compromise

The Al Nassr skipper launched a lawsuit against his former employers this summer lodging a massive complaint. In his appeal, Cristiano Ronaldo noted that the Italian side is yet to pay him over $21.2 million in unpaid wages. Juventus on their part has claimed that the player signed a no dues agreement at the time of his departure.

According to the appeal, the salary is from the pandemic, when a majority of soccer clubs saw drastic financial setbacks. Ronaldo’s case is similar to former Juventus teammate Paulo Dybala who also sued the club over unpaid wages. However, both parties came to a compromise that saw the club shell out $3 million to the Argentine.
