FIFA has just concluded the Best award in which Lionel Messi walked out with the Best men’s player award. The voting system the organization choose led to a lot of controversies. Fans were just coping up with the fact that Portugal coach Roberto Martinez voted for Lionel Messi. Word went viral that Real Madrid star David Alaba had voted for Lionel Messi instead of his teammate Karim Benzema. The soccer star reportedly received hateful texts and harassment over social media for his vote.

Some other notable winners of the award are Alexia Putellas for best women’s player. Penalty mastermind, Emiliano Martinez for Best men’s goalkeeper. The Argentinian team won the best team and the fans of the best team turned out to be the best fans.

David Alaba faced online harassment for voting Lionel Messi

Alaba voted for Lionel Messi as the men’s best player despite having the option to vote for Karim Benzema. After the information came out, the star was subject to Harassment and Racism. Alaba, however, did just open up about the situation and released a statement.

On his Instagram story, he wrote, “The Austrian national team vote for this award as a team, not me alone. Everyone in the team council is able to vote and that’s how it’s decided. Everyone knows, especially Karim, how much I admire him and his performances and I have often said that for me he is the best striker in the world, and that is still the case. Without doubt.”
