For every sport, there are always players who usually stand out above the rest. For soccer, it has to be the Argentinian maestro Lionel Messi, and for F1, you really can’t go wrong with Dutch pilot Max Verstappen. Both with their long list of feats have solidified themselves as the greats and have amassed a huge fan following, but what many might not know is that both are also connected.

Lionel Messi, just last year, completed his dream by winning the FIFA World Cup. Following that, he won the FIFA The Best award and Laureus Sportsman of the Year, for which Verstappen was also nominated. On the other hand, the Red Bull driver, with his recent British GP win, has won his sixth straight race. Both are dominating their respective fields, but there’s one other thing linking them, and that is their lovely partners.

Before answering the question let’s dive into the love life of both stars. Lionel Messi is happily married to his childhood sweetheart, Antonela Roccuzzo. Their love story began in their hometown of Rosario, Argentina, and they have been inseparable ever since.  On the other hand, Max Verstappen is in a perfect kind of romantic relationship with Vogue model Kelly Piquet. The couple has been together for quite some time now and their love story has also captured the attention of many.

What many don’t know is that Piquet and Roccuzzo are actually pretty close friends.  Even though Piquet tries to be less open about her private life, the model has been spotted with the soccer legend’s wife on several occasions. Their most recent appearance came in March 2023, when the two were guests of honor at the fashion show of the prestigious Louis Vuitton brand in Paris.

Kelly Piquet also shared a selfie from the event alongside Roccuzzo in her Instagram story. Along with that, she wrote, “Sitting next to the sweetest,” further proving their strong bond. In addition to Antonela, the Vogue model maintains close friendships with the partners of Messi’s former teammates.

It has been reported that she shares a tight bond with friends such as Sofía Balbi, wife of Luis Suárez; Elena Galera, partner of Sergio Busquets; and Daniella Semaan, partner of Cesc Fábregas. These individuals were all former teammates of Messi during his time at Barcelona. Hearing all this fans can only hope for a collaboration between the two stars.
