Abundance is the word you come across with Manchester City. Its fortunes changed when Sheikh Mansour of the Abu Dhabi United Group bought it. But since the Premier League limits abundance to boundaries, the rich kid in the group is being held accountable for the spending. With the chaos around the FFP saga, a former Liverpool legend is asking Pep Guardiola to clarify the 115 charges against his club quickly.

The temporarily forgotten story came back to life a couple of weeks ago when the FA penalized Everton. After it was found that the club incurred a loss that was more than allowed for a three-year term, the Toffees got slapped with a ten-point deduction. But the Manchester team drew back the focus, as people think they were dealt with rather lightly.

The club, at the moment, doesn’t seem to give any other team a chance to dominate the league. Taking an opportunity, rival pundits are pressing the accelerator on the league holders. According to a report, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher expressed, “It’s not good when we’re talking about one of the best teams of all time in the Premier League and manager.” He later added, “My message to Manchester City would be: This needs to get sorted sooner rather than later, for your own reputation.”

The rest of the bigger clubs want some action against the Sky Blues. There are a total of 115 charges against the club from a period starting in 2009 to 2018. Pep Guardiola’s club is accused of not being transparent in showing their actual spending on a manager, more than people seem to know.

Guardiola, on the other hand, feels that what happened with Everton was completely different. And until you prove the club guilty, they are innocent. But if the charges are proven, then it would quite be detrimental to the FA Cup winners.

A lot at stake for Manchester City

The whole issue has too many implications for the club. Holder of seven Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League, and a treble only next to Manchester United since 1999, their honor is at stake. If found guilty, the team could potentially face relegation or a deduction in points.

The issue would not just be about the club’s situation but also a black mark on the Champions. Contrary to the former Barcelona coach’s perception of not being judged until the end, Carragher insists on taking a proactive approach to avoid a reputational crisis afterward. The reaction from pundits came after the Spaniard had a tussle with them.

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
