Forced to Pick Between Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe’s 23YO Teammate Takes a Diplomatic Route
The GOAT debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi never seems to end. Year by year, they keep creating new records, but nothing seems to be conclusive. One of Mbappe’s teammates at Paris Saint-Germain has a connecting factor between Messi and Ronaldo. This Portuguese international played as a midfielder with both at a very young age. So, who’s the best between Ronaldo and Messi? The famous question was asked to the 23-year-old.
The answer is difficult to choose, one is an all-time top scorer, and the other one is the second-most goalscorer and highest assist provider of all time. Vitinha, who has experienced firsthand the greatness of both Messi and Ronaldo, weighed in on the debate over who he would choose. Before going onto the international break to play alongside Ronaldo, the answer would be expected to create a bit of spice for sure.

Vitinha had the gift of playing with both players and very few had that kind of opportunity. He considers himself honored to have such an experience. In a recent interview ahead of Euro 2024 qualifiers, he was asked to choose between the cliched red and blue pill, Ronaldo and Messi.
Unsurprisingly, the answer was neutral. Vitinha said both the players were extraordinary and loved playing with both. He said, “Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two extraterrestrials. I’m privileged to have played with both of them. I’m going to tell my grandkids one day that I was able to play with both of them.”

Even though the answer seems to be fair, the fans on either side have their own way of looking for judgment. After Roanldo’s move to Saudi, the influx of other players has risen massively. On the other side, digital and television viewership has seen a huge surge after Messi moved to the United States.

The current season going incredibly well for both the stars. They will look to gain the advantage and put their nations on a high in the qualifiers. Portugal is already half done with their quest to go to Germany next year. They are currently the group toppers and a win in the next match against Slovakia will strengthen them for qualification. Ronaldo’s last appearance earned him the world record for the first men’s player to have 200 international caps. The Portuguese captain scored an important later-stage goal to give them a win.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina will just kick off their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign against Ecuador this Thursday. This will be the first official match for the World Champions after winning the trophy last year.

Whoever the actual GOAT is, it is fair to call Ronaldo and Messi the greatest right and left footers of all time? Because the ambiguity may produce a lot of dissatisfaction for the fans, at least both the fan bases can call their role models the GOAT.
