Dani Alves’ situation keeps getting tougher. After being accused of sexual assault, the Brazilian player has been locked up in Catalonia for 10 months. In the latest update, things can get a bit harder for the former Barcelona player as his wife claims that the player is reluctant to divorce.

Alves was the most decorated player in soccer before Lionel Messi left, but now he is facing an accusation made by a 23-year-old. Alves is accused of committing the crime in a nightclub late last year, which has resulted in his wife speaking out.

With the player under trial, the reports claim that the star can face up to nine years in prison. Additionally, his wife said that her relationship with him could not end as the player refused separation.

According to the report, Joana Sanz recently said, “This is a legal matter. I’m talking about infidelity; that’s what I’m worried about. I’m not going to talk because it’s not my place. We’re still married; we talked about divorce, but he wouldn’t give it to me. We’re not going to get divorced right now. At first, he was the one who told me that he wouldn’t give me a divorce. I was going to get a divorce.”

The wife also said that they are not going to get divorced currently and that they are still married. She said that the relationship is not very clear, but she and Alves continue to speak on the phone without interfering in the matter.

As reported, the prosecutors are asking for nine years of imprisonment and a fine of $163,000. The fine is for the physical and psychological harm caused to the woman, as reported. Earlier, the player’s bail was also rejected by the court as they could not risk him leaving the country.
