‘Berhalter – Reyna’ controversy briefly explained

This controversy unofficially started just before the World Cup began. Giovanni Reyna had fallen out of favor in the USMNT dugout. Reyna’s parents seemed to have gotten angry after the falling out. The couple then contacted US Soccer on 11 December and leaked Berhalter’s details. However, Gregg Berhalter and his wife tried to come clean to the fans about the bar fight in 1991 through their public statement. Berhalter also revealed that there was nothing to hide and he was already forgiven years ago.

However, the news that the Reyna family leaked the details took everyone by surprise.

Soccer fans fail to understand the reasoning behind Reyna’s move. Claudio Reyna also denied the claims that he threatened Berhalter during the process. Fans only fear that this incident shouldn’t jeopardize the future of young soccer star Giovanni Reyna.
