Newcastle United is having its best season in the Premier League after quite a few years. Previously the fans used to be extremely frustrated with Mike Ashley, the former Newcastle owner. However, the fans were jubilant after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund purchased a majority share of the club. In recent times, Idris Elba was surprisingly present at a Newcastle game. The Magpies’ fans expressed their surprise to see the British actor, Idris Elba in the stands. The fans simply couldn’t understand why he decided to attend one of Newcastle’s games.

The simple reason is that Elba has forever been a lifelong Arsenal fan.

Newcastle United fans were stunned to see Elba

Newcastle United was playing Southampton in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. The Magpies already had a one-goal advantage after the first leg. Eddie Howe’s team gracefully cruised through the second leg as well. However, every fan’s attention was on the Director’s box. British actor Idris Elba was surprisingly present at the stadium. Soccer fans are normally extremely welcoming, however, Elba is an Arsenal fan.

Quite a few fans tried to make sense of the entire situation. Many fans speculated that Elba could be considering switching allegiances to Newcastle in view of their recent success.

However, many other fans joked that Elba shouldn’t have been given a ticket to the Newcastle game. Fans also joked about whether the British star could put in a shift as a midfielder for the team. Despite Newcastle rising to the top half of the Premier League table, the actor’s favorite team Arsenal is also having an unbelievable season.

Mikel Arteta and his team have proven many soccer pundits wrong this season. Arsenal currently sits first on the Premier League points table with a five point lead. Throughout the season, Idris Elba has been extremely vocal about the club that he loves.

Idris Elba made the headlines after speaking about Gabriel Jesus when the season began. The Gunners had made a shock move for the Manchester City striker after letting Alexandre Lacazette leave on a free transfer. Along with the fans, Elba was impressed with the signing. He told Talksport, “The signing is definitely going to put a bit of sexiness, a bit of pizzazz into the team. A striker comes in and is worth what he says on his number. I think that is always going to make the lads feel a lot more confident”.

This Premier League season has been so much more competitive than the last few ones. Arsenal is surprisingly, sitting at the top of the table after making shrewd transfer decisions. Defending champions Manchester City are in second place followed by Newcastle and Manchester United. The most shocking part of this season is that quite a few well-established clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool have run out of steam. That simply gave rise to different names, such as Newcastle appearing in the top six.
