Neymar Jr. sent shockwaves around the world when he announced his decision to join Al Hilal. Fresh off from winning Ligue 1 with the Paris, the Brazilian icon had more than enough pedigree to play for a top European club. However, his decision to go to the SPL has disappointed many, as they feel he is wasting his potential. Fans, in particular, are upset with the lack of ambition Neymar is displaying with this move.

Reputed Brazilian journalist Renato Senise is among many who have vocally criticized the ex-PSG man for his move to the Gulf. As per Renato, Neymar’s best chance to finally win the Ballon d’Or was now with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo not in Europe. And so, his decision to join a Saudi club at this stage in his career has irked him.

In a recent podcast on The Athletic, Renato Senise spoke about a host of topics including Neymar’s surprise move to Saudi. While the journalist understood the monetary rationale behind the decision to leave Europe at the age of 31, Senise didn’t back mince back words when expressing his frustration on the lack of ambition that’s also associated with this move. He opined that with CR7 in Saudi and LM10 in Miami, Neymar Jr. staying in Europe could’ve done wonders. However, his decision to choose money over sporting glory has irked Senise.

“But in terms of competing against Ronaldo and Messi; I don’t have sympathy. Because at this moment in time; he was the one that should be winning the Ballon d’Or every season. As Ronaldo is not at his peak anymore; Messi is not at his peak anymore,” said the journalist. “So if he was as professional as them, he would be winning the Ballon d’Or. He will be the most important player right now on Earth, but he‘s not,” said Renato Senise.

Unfortunately, to add more to their misery, the recovery time for the Brazilian is also not determined yet.

Speaking at the welcoming ceremony; Jorge Jesus expressed his cluelessness at Neymar’s return. “Maybe he will be ready in mid-September” is all Jesus could say when prodded for a date. However, what’s interesting is the fact that Neymar has been called up by the Brazilian National Team for the International Break next month. This call-up has added to the confusion for Saudi fans, who just can’t seem to wait to witness Neymar play live.
