“I Partly Disagreed With Juventus Signing Cristiano Ronaldo”- Ex-CEO Beppe Marotta Makes Honest Confession

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s impressive goal-scoring record for Juventus may have exceeded 100 goals, but it appears that the club’s former CEO Giuseppe Marotta was not entirely supportive of having the Portuguese striker on the team. After spending an illustrious 9 years at Real Madrid, CR7 joined The Old Lady in July 2018. And just a few months later, in October, Marotta officially ended his tenure as CEO. Why did he leave? Was it because of CR7 or some other factor?
In a recent conversation with Dazn, respected figure Beppe Marotta revealed his perspective on Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus. With an air of retrospection, the 66-year-old commented, “I must recognize that I spent 10 wonderful years at Juventus, but when the owners want to adopt a different strategy, then a manager must take a step back.”
He further added, “It was fair to respect the club’s desire. I partly disagreed with Juventus signing Cristiano Ronaldo.” Marotta then proceeded to explain his reasons for disagreeing with the signing of the 5x Ballon d’Or winner, stating, “The player can’t be questioned, but the deal was demanding in financial terms. It was not the element that brought the splitting. The cycle was over, and we had to change,” he concluded.

Considering Juventus’ current financial concerns, it becomes evident from which perspective he was approaching the situation. Just last season, the Serie A side reported a loss of $130 million and is still striving to recover. Along with Cristiano Ronaldo’s recruitment not being Marotta’s preferred choice, he was further disappointed by the legend’s performances too.

This sentiment was validated a few weeks ago when Mr. Marotta appeared on the Wolf-Storie Che Contano podcast. During this session, he expressed dissatisfaction with the face of Al Nassr’s 3-year term at Juventus. “Juventus’ purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo did not bring the expected results,” acknowledged the executive.

“Let’s say that his contribution did not live up to the great expectations that were there when he arrived,” he further added. Based on these assertions, it can be affirmed that Beppe Marotta wasn’t and still isn’t the biggest supporter of Cristiano Ronaldo making the move to Italy to join Juventus.
