Inter Miami has been found in a confusing state. One of its young stars, Facundo Farias, suffered an ACL injury recently and is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days. But Lionel Messi’s club has now seen another door open with a $550 grand boost. Inter Miami is expected to bring in a former Argentinian champion, bolstering its midfield.

The injury to Farias will sideline him for the majority of the season, at least. This has added to the existing concern about the efficiency of the club that surfaced after its recent game against El Salvador, which ended in a goalless draw. Hence, Tata Martino is looking at wider options in his country.

The club from Miami seemed to have a defensive concern last season. But now it looks like the club is attempting to boost its playmaking to assist Lionel Messi and his team. According to reports, the club is hoping to acquire central midfielder Augustin Palavecino from River Plate, who has a $20 million release clause, in place of Farias. And the news also suggests that the talks are in the later stages of bringing him on loan.

After Farias’ injury, the club will have an additional boost of $550,000. But this will be a part of the salary cap of Farias under the under 22 Initiative. Inter Miami can avail of this by moving him to the Season-Ending Injury List. But, even as the deal amount for Palavecino remains unrevealed, the financial constraints are said to be the reason for a loan rather than a permanent signing for the youngster.

The star, meanwhile, is known to possess excellent passing skills and create chances, which can provide a considerable amount of value instead of Farias. The 27-year-old has already won two Argentinian league titles and one Argentina Super Cup title with River Plate. The central midfielder currently has 13 goals and 12 assists with Los Millonarios giving an extra option for Inter Miami.

However, Palavecino cannot be brought in the Under-22 category, an option they can utilize to sign Cristian Medina with an additional $550,00. Medina was also one of the major targets for David Beckham’s club. But their recent offer to Boca Juniors of $12 million was rejected. Meanwhile, whether the Heron will still pursue Medina in addition to the 27-year-old River Plate rival is yet to be seen.

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
