It looks like the situation of Manchester City wantaway midfielder Kalvin Philips is finally reaching its endgame. His links with West Ham United have been getting stronger every week in the January transfer window. However, as far as progress on the loan deal is concerned with the Hammers, City manager Pep Guardiola has provided a tremendous update.
The England international looks to move out on a loan and could end his barren spell at Manchester City. Significantly, Pep Guardiola’s side will also hope that the best solution arrives for all the parties in the deal.

The Sky Blues had problems with interested clubs agreeing on terms to loan out Kalvin Philips. However, fortunately for City and the midfielder, West Ham has found the perfect key to the solution. They have agreed a deal in principle with the Premier League over a loan deal that will last till the end of the season. In a press conference ahead of the FA Cup game against Tottenham, Pep stated, “It’s not completely done. Hopefully, he can play the minutes he deserves and I couldn’t give to him. He’s an exceptional human being.”

According to reports, the Hammers will also have an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season for a fee of $50 million. West Ham United will also pay his full 140,000 pounds per week’s wages during the loan stint. The move will also benefit the ambitions of Kalvin Philips. The 28-year-old will get regular game time to strengthen his position in the England national team before the 2024 Euros kick off later this year.

Philips is set to end his disappointing spell with Manchester City
This season, the 28-year-old has made four appearances in the Premier League. Last season, it was 12, the majority of them were from the bench. Kalvin Philips will be aware that Pep Guardiola does not see him in his short and long-term plans. Hence, even if West Ham does not activate the option to buy him permanently, he needs to do well enough to attract the interest of other top clubs next summer.
