It isn’t surprising to see children follow in their parent’s footsteps. Well, who wouldn’t if their parent was one of the most sought after managers in European Soccer? The German tactician, Jurgen Klopp, made a name for himself during his playing days and it seems he also inspired his son Marc Klopp to follow the same path. Unbeknown to many, Klopp’s son had a rather defined career before hanging up his boots.

Marc Klopp was born to Jurgen Klopp and his ex-wife Sabine Klopp on 13th December 1988. Since his early childhood, Marc wanted to become a professional soccer star like his father. However, his childhood took a rough turn in 2001, when his parents got divorced after being together for 21 others. Despite that, Marc continued to follow his dream under his father’s guidance, making his professional debut in 2007 for FSV Frankfurt’s U19 side.

Marc then signed with Karbener SV in 2009 before joining the Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 the following year. While his father was a prominent striker, Marc picked up the reputation of being a rock-solid right back. 2012 was a major break for Jurgen Klopp’s son as he was roped in by Borussia Dortmund II for a whopping $12.4 million. However, injuries cut his time short at Dortmund, as he was forced to take a sabbatical in 2013.

Marc made his comeback in 2015, playing in the Bezirksliga. However, he announced his retirement the same year after picking up a career-ending injury.

Despite an early retirement, Marc continues to be a huge fan of the sport, with the ex-player often spotted in the stands alongside his father during soccer games. While his career as a player might have not turned out the way he wanted, Jurgen Klopp’s son continues to make a name for himself as a prominent business owner.

Following his playing career, Marc turned his attention to business as he founded Onside Sports in 2017. The firm serves as an off-season activity agency for football clubs, helping them plan their events better. Onside Sports since its establishment has worked alongside top teams. Onside Sports partnered up with Brighton Hove & Albion for their Alpine trip in 2017. Apart from his work with clubs, Marc also co-founded ATHLIN in 2022 to provide professional advice and support to athletes.

Klopp’s son is said to maintain a private life with the ex-player, disinterested in sharing details about his personal life. While fans have tried to pry into his romantic life, Jurgen’s son has kept everything under wraps.
