Didier Deshcamps’ team has made a mockery of last-placed Gibraltar in the team’s penultimate game of the Euro 2024 qualifier. After defeating the team 14-0 to record their biggest European qualifier win, Kylian Mbappe took to his social media to post a message for fans celebrating the victory. On an Instagram story, he wrote, “A record-breaking team effort”.

Leading a competitive Group B with former winners Greece and the Netherlands, it looks like France will end the campaign on a high and respectable note. After missing out on the last Euro title, the team will look to take the continental throne after many years. The last time France won the trophy was under captain Didier Deschamps in 2000, their current head coach.

Last night’s victory was easy for the World Cup runners-up side, as Gibraltar did not even have one shot at the opponent’s end. France ended up having nine different scorers from their team, including Mbappe’s hat trick. The Frenchman keeps reaching different levels at just 24.

Mbappe reaches another milestone

With the hat trick he scored last night, Mbappe achieved another feat after reaching his personal 300-goal mark and simultaneously overtaking Antoine Griezmann as the third-top scorer for France. The Paris Saint-Germain star is five goals behind Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and 10 behind all-time top scorer Olivier Giroud.

Giroud also took the opportunity to add to his goal-scoring lead as the French forward wrapped up with a brace. Coming from the bench, the AC Milan star scored in quick succession in the dying moments of the match. France will make their last appearance against Greece in Athens on Tuesday.
