Lionel Messi, the Argentine superstar, is regarded as one of the best players to have ever played the game. With a never-ending list of records and achievements, his legacy speaks for itself. He has a record 43 titles and seven Ballon d’Or awards to his name. Furthermore, Messi also led Argentina to the World Cup glory in 2022 and has become a national hero in his homeland.
His name is now a household name, and he is revered by fans worldwide. However, it all began for Messi at his boyhood club, Newell’s Old Boys. The Argentine was only six years old when he joined the Rosario-based team. He played for six seasons, showcasing his immense talent and impressing the board of Barcelona, who eventually signed him on.
But Messi never forgot where he came from and remained a loyal supporter of Newell’s throughout his illustrious career. Now, the club is looking to honor Messi’s legacy and immortalize him.

Astore stated, “It may be that the new stand bears Messi’s name, but we are going to involve the members of that election, it will be through a platform”. This indicates that the decision to name the new stand after Messi will be left up to the club’s members and the company that is building the grandstand.
