Following the 4-1 victory at Gillette Stadium, Lionel Messi said, “Another win to keep adding up!.” The result meant that the Herons remained first in the Eastern Conference. Hence, for the first time, Inter Miami genuinely looks like a contender for the MLS title. Their title charge has been spearheaded by the veteran duo of Messi and Luis Suarez. And in the win against the New England Revolution, the timeless duo added another longstanding MLS record to their names.

Against the New England Revolution, Lionel Messi scored a brace and created a plethora of chances as well. His display earned him the MLS Player of the Matchday in Weekday 11. This is Messi’s second POTM award and Luis Suarez also has two. This means the former Barcelona duo has equaled a record set by David Beckham and Landon Donovan for LA Galaxy. La Pulga and El Pistolero are now the first teammates since the LA Galaxy duo to have multiple POTM awards within matchday 11 of the season.

With Lionel Messi and Suarez lining up for Beckham’s side Inter Miami, the Englishman would be more than happy to share his record. It is worth noting that Beckham won the MLS twice with LA Galaxy. Can La Pulga inspire the Herons to similar success? Well, the display against the Revs is a step in the right direction.

In the match, the Herons fell behind in the 1st minute! Yet, they displayed a champion mentality to complete a 4-1 comeback victory. This was not an easy feat considering the Herons played at an away ground with a record turnout!

There is a longstanding claim that Lionel Messi helped improve the popularity of soccer in the US. Well the match against the New England Revolution, certainly backed this up. Despite the stadium having a capacity of 65000, the tickets were sold out! Impressive considering that the tickets were priced at $285.  This match also rewrote the attendance record at the iconic stadium which was 61, 316 attendees back in 2002.

Furthermore, the home crowd actually played a great deal in Lionel Messi’s mesmeric performance. Despite their side trailing most of the game, the supporters chanted Miami #10’s name and La Pulga looked overjoyed at the unexpected enthusiasm. If the trend follows in the upcoming away games as well, then stopping the Argentine playmaker would prove to be a monumental task.
