It’s been almost eight months since one of the world’s biggest power couples, Shakira and Gerard Pique, split in June 2022. The couple, who had been together for almost 11 years, broke up after the ex-Barcelona star cheated on the Colombian singer with a 23-year-old PR student, Clara Chia Marti.

Ever since the split, the story of this once-happy couple has just been ugly. Surrounded by a lot of controversies, including diss tracks and shades being thrown from both sides, one of the biggest power couples in the world is long gone.

One question that still arises among fans is despite having two kids together and being together for so long, the couple never got married. To get the answer, we’ll have to go back 29 months prior to the messy split.

Shakira revealed why she never married Pique

In a candid interview in 2020, Shakira revealed that she hated the concept of marriage. “To tell you the truth, marriage scares the sh*t out of me,” she said. ‘I don’t want him to see me as the wife. I want him to see me as the lover, the girlfriend.”

She further added, ” I want to keep him on his toes. I want him to think that anything’s possible depending on behavior”. It is clear Shakira just wanted to continue their boyfriend-girlfriend relationship and didn’t want to be tied to the concept of marriage. It is truly unfortunate that such a beautiful relationship had to end on such a sour note.

Shakira’s new diss track delayed

Shakira’s original diss track towards Pique, “Shakira Bzrp Music Session” has been a huge success. Shortly after that, it was revealed that Shakira and fellow Latin singer Karol G are reportedly in the production process of a new diss track, titled currently unknown.

The diss track was supposed to release on February 2, the same day as Shakira and Pique’s birthday. However, the song that the fans were waiting for so much didn’t drop. As the song has been delayed for some future date because it is still in production.
