Massive Riots as Fans Take to the Streets of Belgium After Their Shocking Loss Against Morocco at the FIFA World Cup

This FIFA World Cup has seen everything, following the script of big upsets. Morrocco shocked the entire world by beating Belgium 2-0. Having just 33% ball possession, they achieved the impossible. This is not the first upset of the FIFA tournament, it all started with Argentina’s defeat against Saudi Arabia followed by Germany’s humiliating performance against Japan. 

This is 3rd big upset of the tournament, and this match got the fans losing their minds. However, in Belgium, things got so overheated that hundreds of police officers had to block Brussels streets.

Fans are upset over the defeat of the team, but this anger yesterday blew up in the city and damaged several private properties. This violence shocked fans all around the world, condemning the action. Police had to use force to limit the violence in the city.

The mayor of Brussels made a statement

After the riot broke out because of the defeat in the FIFA tournament, the mayor of Brussels Philippe Close made a statement. He said, “I condemn in the strongest terms the incidents of this afternoon. The police have already firmly intervened. I, therefore, advise against fans coming to the city center. The police are doing all they can to maintain public order. I have ordered the police to carry out arrests of the troublemakers…”

After the violence broke out, 100 policemen were posted at the location to contain the riot. According to a spokesperson, people threw fireworks and torched the vehicles, they reported a journalist has injured in the altercation.

Morocco outplays FIFA No.2 Belgium

Abdelhamid Sabiri scored for Morocco in the 74th minute of the game. The match was very much in control of Belgium before this goal and morocco already had a disallowed goal in the first half. With ball possession lying just above 30% everybody counted them out, and they just slid right back to victory.

During the last minutes of the game, when Belgium’s players were trying their best to bring the match to a tie, Zakaria Aboukhlal broke their hopes. Abdoukhal scored the last goal of the match at 90+2nd minute of the match, sealing the fate of Belgium players.

The Moroccan team now stands in the 2nd spot on the table. Their chances look promising to make it to the next round, as their only match is with Canada. Belgium, however, has to beat Croatia in a dominating way and hope for a draw in the defeat of the Moroccan team.
