Why did Martínez make a mockery of Kylian Mbappe?

Les Bleus fans have not been happy with the Emiliano Martínez has been celebrating. The Argentine goalie has this time taken a direct hit at Kylian Mbappe. While the Argentine squad was on a victory parade in Buenos Aires, the Aston Villa shot-stopper pulled out a baby doll that had a nappy on. That baby doll has a cut-out of Kylian Mbappe’s face stuck on it.

This extreme piece of celebration has rubbed Les Bleus’ fans the wrong way. However, some fans think this is justified because Martínez was also on the receiving end for such banter during the game. While another bunch of fans are of the opinion that the Argentine goalie is now going overboard and insulting the French super-striker.

Let’s have a look at how some of the fans reacted to the Martínez fiasco.

The fan reactions above do showcase a lot of anger, most of it coming in a surprising way. The common trend around these tweets is basically why would Martinez do such a thing even after Kylian Mbappe scored thrice against him?

Not the first time Martinez has done something like this

The Argentine goalie is definitely not one of the quiet types of players. It’s safe to assume that Martínez is the complete opposite of Lionel Messi in terms of their demeanor. The baby doll – Mbappe fiasco was not the first time Martínez has done something out of the box.

After the World Cup final, Martínez was called up to the podium to receive the ‘Golden Glove’. The golden glove is an award that is given to the best goalkeeper of the World Cup campaign. While every other player would accept the award with honor and step down from the podium, the Argentine goalie had other plans.

Martínez accepted the award and held the glove in front of his crotch area to mock Les Bleus’ fans. Images of that poses immediately surfaced on social media and that weird moment went viral in seconds. However, the goalie later told the radio station La Red, “I did it because the French booed me. Pride does not work with me”.

The Argentine goalie put in the performance of a lifetime in the World Cup final. Without Martínez, the Argentines would have possibly not won the match. Martínez put on a heroic display of shot-stopping during the penalty shootout that proved vital to Argentina winning the World Cup.
