Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi decided to leave Europe after the end of their respective chapters. Both wanted a fresh adventure after their nightmares at Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain. Hence, they decided to join the Saudi Pro League and MLS. But, one journalist feels that the Argentinian has made 10x more impact than the Portuguese forward.

The Al Nassr star will have his focus on the title fight in the second half of the season. On the other hand, the Inter Miami star would focus on starting the upcoming season well. But in terms of impact, there is only one winner!

There is no doubt that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have increased the viewership of their respective leagues. Their league organizers have also pointed out their impact on and off the pitch. But, French Journalist Julien Laurens said, “Messi and Argentina won the World Cup. Everything that followed was just, I mean, 10 times more than anything else. Any other player in the world, Cristiano, included, Haaland, Mbappe all the other stars.” 

He continued, “I think there was that Messi magic that maybe we didn’t see so much for Cristiano in Saudi, although Cristiano has done well in Saudi. But, MLS is a stronger League than Saudi’s, let’s be honest.”

The French journalist also pointed out that the Inter Miami star winning the League Cup and Ballon d’Or contributed to this. Despite missing several games because of injury, Lionel Messi received the Most Valuable Player of 2023 in MLS (MVP). In his first season, he scored 11 goals and provided eight assists for Herons in all competitions a few months after his arrival.

It is just not on the pitch that the 36-year-old World Cup winner is making a footmark in the MLS. He has helped the league achieve numbers like they have never achieved in their history.

According to ticket exchange and resale company StubHub’s data, Inter Miami is the fourth best-selling on their website. The MLS experienced a massive surge in net sales during the 2023 season, thanks to the arrival of the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner, even attracting fans across the seas. Inter Miami attracted fans from over 90 countries who bought the tickets. Notably, the club registered a rise of 220% in international ticket sales.

The arrival of the World Cup champion has also helped Apple TV sell more of its subscriptions. The soccer fraternity expects its number to keep on doubling as the upcoming season is near its start.
