Major League Soccer’s effort to keep upgrading is still on. The Amercian league has not seen a revolution like the Roshn Saudi League with mass movement of players but has shown constant improvement in transfers. After acquiring the services of World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris, Los Angeles FC is now rumored to be in talks with another WC winner who is currently helping the Rossoneri.

LAFC has been high on confidence after finishing the 2023 season as runner-up. Now, as reported by the renowned Fabrizio Romano, to boost their squad, the club has taken a step further towards signing AC Milan’s striker Olivier Giroud after the conclusion of this current season. Romano reported that LAFC has sent an official proposal to the 37-year-old expressing their desire to acquire him as a free agent. Meanwhile, he also stated that many other MLS teams are eyeing the star, but Giroud prefers LAFC.

Reports suggest that the striker already has a favorite with his former France NT teammate Lloris, also pushing for the same. Giroud’s contract will expire this June after he signed a 1-year extension with AC Milan. His move from Chelsea in 2021 has been a blessing to AC Milan as the striker has scored 46 goals for the club. He also played a vital part in bringing back the Serie A title to Rossoneri after missing out for 10 seasons. Nevertheless, it looks like he will be joining Hugo Lloris pretty soon.

Hugo Lloris was impressed by LAFC before attempting to convince Giroud

Hugo Lloris was not considered as a first choice for Tottenham Hotspur anymore, which resulted in him arriving in the MLS. Wanting to play more at the top level, the goalkeeper was impressed with LAFC because of their squad previously, which included his former teammate and icon Gareth Bale. Lloris was reported saying, “When you add Giorgio and Gareth, and, because I’m French, Denis [Bouanga], it’s like, ‘Oh, this club is really interesting.’ And also they won very fast”, making it a no brainer for the Frenchman to accept the offer.

Therefore, the player sensed an opportunity to embrace the company of a Frenchman in a land far away from home. In summary, last year was a major landmark for MLS after acquiring Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi. But the arrival of other world-class players like Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud to other teams than Inter Miami will bolster its reputation.
