Spain and Germany played out a draw in their second game of the FIFA World Cup. Spain came into the game with an emphatic 7-0 win over Costa Rica. Germany, on the other side, lost their opening game to Asian giants Japan. It was a do-or-die game for the Germans and they managed to keep their R16 hopes alive with a goal from super-sub Fullkrug.

Spain opened the scoring through Alvaro Morata in the 62nd minute. However, Werder Bremen striker Fullkrug had different plans and equalized in the 83rd min. The game ended 1-1 with Germany winning their first point in the 2022 World Cup.

It was a game of super-subs for both teams, as it ended in a stalemate. Germany had a lot of chances to score but failed to convert them. That is what made their equalizer so special. However, Germany’s goal late in the game sparked reactions from soccer fans around the world.

Apart from being a massive fixture, fans expected it to be a great matchup between Jamal Musiala and Pedri. Both youngsters have been in insane form for their respective clubs. However, they have managed to continue to perform at the same level as their national team as well. Musiala, especially, was influential in Germany’s equalizer.

Group E is wide open after the end of 2nd game week. All teams have a good chance of making it to the knockouts of the tournament. However, Germany remains the only winless team in the group. Their sole point came from their 1-1 draw with Spain. Spain, however, leads the group table with 4 points off 2 games.

Japan sits 2nd in the group with 3 points. They managed to beat Germany in their opening game but lost to Costa Rica. Costa Rica’s bounce back against Japan has created big chaos in the group. The final match day will decide which teams will be able to make it out of the group. Spain will face Japan in their final group game, while Costa Rica and Germany will clash for the R16 qualification.
