Cristiano Ronaldo has, at many times, taken refereeing decisions with a pinch of salt. He has never shied away from questioning a referee’s call, which he deemed wrong. However, CR7 has also ended on the wrong side of the debate at times. Meanwhile, he has been right on many occasions as well. Interestingly, the legend once had a clear verdict for the opposition. Recently, Al Khaleej’s Mohamed Sherif has recalled how he crossed paths and gained the opinion of a ‘truly great player‘ over a disallowed goal.

Last November, Al Nassr had the better of Al Khaleej and won 2-0. During that match, Mohamed Sherif’s strike hit the back of the net, only to be ruled offside by the match referee.

Much like Sherif, even Cristiano Ronaldo unexpectedly objected to the ruling. Later, on the pitch, the Al Nassr captain gave Sherif his two cents on the disallowed goal. “He is a truly great player. As for the conversation that took place between us, I objected to the ruling that one of the goals was offside. Since my shirt had Sherif written on it in English, I was surprised that Cristiano said to me: No, it is not offside, Sherif,” said Mohamed Sherif.

It is quite surprising that the Portuguese man had the same conviction as his rival. Anyhow, the goal remained disallowed and Ronaldo and co. took three points home. On the other hand, Sherif took away the memory of interacting with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Coming back to questioning the disallowed goal, that was Cristiano Ronaldo being the type of individual he has been, who always questions the referee’s calls.

A referee once claimed that CR7 does not even trust VAR!

Speaking of his infamous on-field exchange with Cristiano Ronaldo, referee Said Martinez said, “He complained to me, he confronted me because I disallowed two goals. He did not even trust the VAR.” That is the classic Ronaldo. However, that day, the 38-year-old realized Martinez was right and accepted his mistake. But this has not always been the case.

Once the legend was right and a referee was wrong. Dutch referee Danny Makkelie had disallowed CR’s stoppage-time strike against Serbia, which was cleared away by a defender off the goal line. Realizing the ball had actually passed the line, Makkelie later apologized to the Portuguese coach and captain Cristiano Ronaldo. What are your thoughts on CR7’s verdicts against referees?
