There is a significant presence of American soccer in Europe. But most notably, it’s one of the USMNT’s frontmen, Christian Pulisic, who has made the most impact. The player is having one of the best seasons of his career at AC Milan. But to an American soccer legend’s disappointment, Pulisic was snubbed for Olivier Giroud, by another expert who simply referred to the numbers.

Pulisic played a crucial part in Chelsea‘s 2020–2021 UEFA Champions League triumph and also had other decent performances. But ultimately, he had a flat last season with Chelsea. Often benched and facing slander from the fans, Pulisic was excluded from the London team’s future plans. Nevertheless, the exit from Chelsea might just prove to be a blessing in disguise for Christian Pulisic. The player is now competing with the best players in Europe.

‘Best player’ tag was handed to Giroud because of ‘his impact’ despite Pulisic’s iconic UCL equalizer

AC Milan has been lucky this season, with many players in form. But despite Christian Pulisic scoring important goals, a senior journalist said that 2018 World Cup winner Olivier Giroud has been AC Milan’s best player. Speaking to ESPN FC, Nicky Bandini quoted, “Has he been the best player this season? That’s a slightly more interesting conversation. I think Giroud still might be ahead of him in that particular debate given that Giroud has more goals.” Pulisic, on the other side, is just two goals short of Giroud, with both on 7 and 9, respectively.

The difference between both players is very thin, as even assists are in favor of the French star with 6 to 5. Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic was involved in some game-changing moments for Milan. The winger, who is playing a more centralized role, recently scored an important equalizer against Newcastle United in the last game of the group stage.

Even though Milan could not qualify for the Champions League knockouts due to a heavy goal difference, the fightback led by Pulisic’s goal enabled them to seal a Europa League spot. However, Giroud’s important contributions could stretch the debate further.

Herculez Gomez is convinced that Pulisic’s ‘importance’ has been vital for Milan

Contrary to Bandini, former striker Herculez Gomez expressed his approval of Pulisic being the best. A convinced Gomez said, “There is no other player in Serie A with his numbers in the month of December. His importance, his goals, his assists, the timely manner in which he scores them or in which he’s there at the moment, they’ve given this Milan team some big moments and some points.” Earlier Gomez ditched Pulisic as the best player in USMNT.

Milan is currently third in the Serie A table. With an 8-point deficit below toppers Inter Milan, the team could have been worse if not for the crunch goal and assist by Pulisic against Napoli and Sassuolo. Overall, AC Milan will be thrilled to have signed the USMNT star for four years for just $24.2 million.

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
