Why would a 17-time Guinness world record holder and a global superstar take such a career hiatus? Per Shakira, it was all for Pique.

In a recent interview with Time UK, Shakira revealed the sacrifices she made for her former partner. She said, ” For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football,” she says. “There was a lot of sacrifice for love.” The couple had two children, Milan and Sasha. However, Pique’s storied career with Barcelona meant that he was always on the move, and hence most of the responsibilities fell on his ex-Colombian partner. But how was parenting for her?

Shakira had previously stated that parenting is one of the ‘most difficult’ things she has done in her life. But she was never forced to put her career on hold. It was ultimately her decision and how she wanted to be as a parent. She had said, “When you don’t have a husband who can stay home with the kids, it’s constant juggling because I like to be a present mom and I need to be there every moment with my children.”

Following her split with Pique, Shakira has traded the sunny side of Barcelona for the Cosmopolitan buzz of Miami. But how is she faring in her new environment? According to Shakira, all’s well thanks to some high-profile company.

How well does Shakira know David Beckham and Victoria? Well, it turns out she met David Beckham before getting into a relationship with Gerard Pique. It was during Beckham’s stint at Real Madrid. Also, his better half Victoria is keeping good company with the Pop star. The singer revealed, “I’ve talked to Victoria quite a few times since I arrived.” She added, “We’re always talking about when I’m going to go watch a match, and I know Milan wants to.”
