American investments in English soccer are increasing. Business tycoon Todd Boehly purchased Chelsea FC. Bill Foley took over AFC Bournemouth with American actor Michael B. Jordan also being part of the ownership of it. Similarly, a few years back, American investor Alan Pace had purchased Burnley FC. Earlier this week, Premier League-bound Burnley got its American investors. NFL legend JJ Watt announced an investment in the English club with his wife.
It’s obvious to say Wrexham AFC and its owners (Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney) inspired many to invest in a soccer club. The story of the Welsh club has reached millions thanks to the docuseries Welcome To Wrexham, and JJ Watt was one of them. He also spoke to Ryan Reynolds before making a decision. However, a few days after the investment, he revealed the true mind behind the decision.

JJ Watt reveals the inspiration behind Burnley’s investment
Burnley FC, founded in 1882, was owned locally since. Alan Pace took over the club in 2020 under his ALK Capital. The club, valued at $143 million, won the EFL Championship and is back in the Premier League. And now they get JJ Watt and his wife and soccer player, Kealia Watt, onboard as owners after their investment into the club.

After the investment, Watt took to Instagram to reveal the brain behind the deal. It is none other than his wife, who is a soccer player. He captioned the Instagram story, “The true brains (and definitely beauty) behind the operation,” tagging Kealia Watt. The NFL legend says, “he’s officially retired from retirement,” after the Burnley operation.

JJ Watt will start his new journey in English football after retiring from American football. Watt is a soccer fan since 2010. He started following the Premier League since then and liked the league. The NFL defensive came to the point where he wanted to own a soccer club with his wife, who played in NWSL.

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leeds, and West Ham are other clubs owned partially or completely by American business owners. With Burnley due to play in the Premier League next season, adds one more club with ownership from the US. The stature of the league with the highest TV revenues is seen as a crucial reason behind increasing investment in the league.
