Megan Rapinoe played her final game for the OL Reign on Friday. The game between her team and the Washington Spirit ended in a scoreless draw. Before Rapinoe retired from professional soccer, the 38-year-old rewrote NWSL history. Her last match at Lumen Field in Seattle had a record-breaking attendance of 34,130 fans, and the audience was the largest ever. Megan Rapinoe details her retirement plans

The two-time World Cup winner has been a vocal advocate for equality and social justice. In the post-match press conference, Rapinoe detailed her plans after bidding farewell to soccer. She believed that a lot of things in her life were going to remain the same. Rapinoe said, “I have an amazing partnership with Nike. I have an amazing production company that I can’t wait to really get into… I’m going to be a part of the next phase of women’s sports. Not just soccer.

 

As the conversation progressed, the Olympic gold medalist mentioned the progress that took place in women’s soccer. She believes that this achievement is the result of the collective effort of many players. The soccer legend continued, “I feel like not just me so many players of this generation been such a huge part of building the foundation and sort of in the beginning stages of what it is a really exciting time in women’s sports. So I’m not gonna miss out those fruits of labor.

Rapino added, “I’m really looking forward to being sort of one of the business architects in the next phase.” Rapinoe mentioned that she still has a lot to offer the sport. It seems that the 38-year-old is in a great state of mind following her retirement decision. On that note, a few days ago, the American star surprised her fans with a ‘TikTok girlie’ video.

The two-time World Cup winner channels her inner ‘TikTok girlie’

The OL Reign star had recently had a photoshoot ahead of her last dance. Makeup artist Joanna Simkin took to her Instagram handle to upload a TikTok video of Rapinoe. In the video, the former USWNT legend looked stunning in an outfit designed by Dan McLean. When the soccer star came across the footage, she shared it on her Instagram story, showing that she was having fun.
