“Robbed Twice”- Jurgen Klopp & Liverpool Fans Blast Michael Oliver’s ‘Disgraceful’ Decision After Late Penalty Denial

Liverpool’s game against Manchester City was nothing short of a blockbuster. Fighting for the premier league title, both the giants could not find the cutting edge as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. However, such a game doesn’t go without its own set of controversies. This game was a major one where Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp felt that the referee Michael Oliver or VAR should have given them a penalty.

During the 9th minute of the stoppage time, Jeremy Doku’s leg hit Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister trying to receive a lofted ball. Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp felt that Doku’s leg was high enough to receive a yellow. He said, “Isn’t [VAR] there for just making the right decision and not thinking about how high the bar is to overturn it to find the right decision? This situation, in all positions across the pitch, is 100 percent a foul and a yellow card.”  It was not just Klopp, but also the fans who have been claiming that they were deprived of a penalty twice.

The game ended with a 1-1 draw, but Klopp and the Liverpool fans would not like to settle for less. Posting the video on X (Previously Twitter) one fan felt that the referee robbed them. He also insisted that they deserved a penalty against Arsenal earlier in the season.

The previous one was just a small example of frustration Liverpool fans showed, this one down here is distraught and says he was disgusted.

Being dumbfounded by the decision, this fan feels it was a genuine penalty.

 

One user hilariously takes a dig at Jeremy Doku felt that he was doing Kung Fu against the Argentine player and was left shocked.

 

One person implied that it was a clear foul as it could have been a freekick if it happened anywhere in the field.

 

A netizen says that there shouldn’t have been any mercy for the winger. Claiming that Doku should have been sent off she gave her views straight.

Most of the Liverpool fans thought it was a penalty for their club. Mainly it was Doku’s foot that was considered a danger to Mac Allister and additionally, some felt he failed to get the ball expecting a penalty.

With a clear result, either one was expected to top the league table. After the stalemate, rivals Arsenal moved to the top spot with Liverpool dropping to the second place and the Sky Blues going below them. Meanwhile, the Gunners have the same points as Jurgen Klopp’s team but are ahead in goal difference with 7 more. But Mikel Arteta’s team will clash against Pep Guardiola’s team at Etihad, making the title race even spicier.

On the other hand, Liverpool will try to lift another trophy, as they take on archrivals Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinals next week. The last year’s finalist will try to take revenge from last season’s 7-0 humiliation but considering the might of the Reds, it will be a daunting task. Nevertheless, the German manager will aim to make a treble in his last season for Liverpool with 3 more trophies available this time apart from the already-won EFL League Cup.
