Months after the highly controversial release of the diss track by Shakira, “Bzrp Music Session #53,” the drama is yet to die down. The track was penned down by the international singing sensation to target her former partner, Gerard Pique. Thanks to the song’s immense success, it eventually went on to break various Guinness World Records. Unfortunately, the track also invited a lot of criticism.
One such criticism came in February this year from the famous American actor Jencarlos Canela. He pointed out that Shakira handled the situation of her split with the soccer legend, in a way that was unhealthy.

He opined that the manner in which the song was written would not pass without having an effect on Shakira and Pique’s children. He said, “To think that this is not going to hurt them is to be ignorant”. The actor further believes that when the situation matures, Shakira will realize the potential damage her diss track did to the children.
He also said that her decision of taking to her music to let out her emotions could have been thought out in a better way. Moreover, although Shakira’s song is said to be a gesture of female empowerment, Canela insists otherwise.
Jencarlos Canela isn’t a big fan of the track
Canela said, “From my perception, the song shows a wounded woman, not an empowered and ok cool woman. That’s the reality and pain makes us reactive and impulsive at times”. Also, Canela was of the view that her pain often gets the better of her. This according to him resulted in making the song full of contradictions.

He showed this with an example saying, “It says ‘a wolf like me is not for a guy like you’, but nevertheless she is dedicating an entire song to him where she insults him and his partner”. Besides the criticism from Canela, there is some strong backing in support of Shakira as well.
