Alexis Ohanian invested to create a better social media platform for athletes
Ohanian thought if built properly, online communities would be better than offline ones and come very close to being real. He was concerned with the abuse the footballers are getting on social media.
Reddit co-founder, when talking about his investment in Gloria, said, “A lot of these sports conversations and a lot of platforms get pretty dark, get pretty awful. And footballers, in particular, are targeted for hate and harassment on social media, and it’s one of the downsides of this connected world we live in. All of these factors make verticalized specific communities and platforms like Gloria so much more appealing.”

Gloria is a social media app founded in 2018 by Victoire Cogevina and Matias Castello. It has been built especially for soccer players and mostly serves as a scouting app. Players worldwide can share their stuff on the platform, which results in building a soccer community. It will be open not only for professional soccer players but also for the budding soccer stars yet to sign contracts.
Recently, OneFootball has taken over Gloria and named Cogevina as the vice president for women’s soccer. They want to include and promote women’s soccer on the platform too. The reason for selecting Cogevina is her long-time advocacy for equal pay in soccer.
