With their opening AFCON encounter just days away, Senegal hopes to have a strong start to the tournament. However, it does not mean that the team will miss the opportunity to have a few laughs. Head coach Aliou Cisse revealed an interesting story during his press conference, with all his players blaming Sadio Mane for his late wedding. The Al Nassr star had his wedding earlier this week as he tied the knot with his partner, Aisha Tamba. 

On the other hand, Sadio Mane and his side will start their campaign in the upcoming week, with the team playing rivals Gambia in their opening fixture. All eyes will be on the defending champions, with fans expecting Aliou Cisse’s men to stomp roll their opponents. Yet, the wedding bells are shining for Mane!

Senegal, head coach Aliou Cissé, addressed the media during his press conference before the side set off for their AFCON campaign. The defending AFCON champions will look to repeat their feat from last time and keep their hands on the title.

During the press conference, Cisse was asked about skipper Sadio Mane’s marriage. The Senegalese head coach and a humorous response claiming that Mane’s teammate wanted him to get married earlier in his career. “I think marriage is a moment that is quite important. It’s true that this is our life, but there is also our family and moments of happiness like Sadio is experiencing. The whole national team we have blamed him for that. The whole national team including me asked him all the time when are you going to get married.”

Sadio Mane will have enormous responsibilities on his shoulders, with the nation relying on the player to help the team retain the title. Senegal is undoubtedly among the top contenders to win the AFCON title.

Senegal looks to retain the AFCON title

The coveted African tournament will kick-start this Sunday with hosts Ivory Cost taking on Guinea-Bissau in the opening encounter. Sadio Mane’s men have been drawn to Group C alongside Gambia, Guinea, and Cameroon. Senegal will kick-start their campaign on the 15th of January, with the side locking horns against Gambia.

The defending champions will surely fancy their chances with Senegal, most likely to finish at the top of their table during the group stages.
